An Inconvenient Truth (2006): A documentary on Al Gore’s campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognized problem worldwide.
The subject matter of this documentary is an important one, and it deserves to be discussed. Global warming can be felt by everybody who can see the difference of temperature year after year. But the biggest ramifications are not as visible, and for that we need to be educated.
As Gore said in his presentation, 99-100% of scientific papers agree that this is a big problem. However only 50% of newspaper articles agree with it. If all scientists agree on this matter, how can non-scientists overrule their opinion? Why would people ignore this grave danger that our planet is risking? It reminds me of how the planet Krypton was destroyed, even though they were warned by Jor-El, Superman’s father.
So I recommend this documentary because I think everyone needs to know about it. However, it does not make this film good at all. This is basically a video taping of one of Al Gore’s presentations, spliced with totally useless scenes about Al Gore. We see him in random videos that are only accompanying his narration, and his narration is not about global warming, but about himself and his life.
These scenes are not only useless, but they detracted from my interest in the subject. I was really interested in his presentation, but when it is interrupted with one of those meaningless scenes, I was annoyed and wanted to just skip to the continuation of the presentation. Also, after each break I had to mentally think back to his last point in the presentation, and resume from there.
The presentation itself was interesting, and Gore even made some funny jokes. Some of the points were not very clear, not because he didn’t explain them well, but because they were complex facts. Some other points were not dealt with in a satisfactory way, while some others were presented more than once.
I would have liked this much more if it showed only the presentation, and cut all that nonsense about Al Gore.
