Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider (2007): Based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.

This is a fantasy/action movie that ultimately was forgettable for me. The story of the deal with the devil has been done many times, so it’s not a novelty. In the end it feels like the story was just an excuse to put a flaming skull motorcycle rider on the screen.

Don’t get me wrong, I thought the effects on Ghost Rider were cool, even though when his bike started to transform it felt a little bit cheesy. However after the novelty of the first scene wore off I didn’t find that interesting anymore.

I don’t think Nic Cage was particularly good in this role, and he wasn’t helped by Eva Mendes. She’s a pretty girl but her scenes were too slapstick to be believable. Even Peter Fonda gave a typical rendition of the devil.

The only thing I really liked about this movie was Sam Elliott. I liked his narration and I liked his performance. But I also thought he was cool when he became the Ghost Rider, and the horse changed. I thought that was cooler than the motorcycle. Unfortunately we are teased for a minute, and then he disappears. Bah!?!?

The final battle was forgettable just like all previous actions. And the cheesiest moment is when Johnny refuses the devil’s deal to have his life back, and wants to fight for good. So cheesy!

A forgettable movie with some cool effects. Ultimately shallow.
