Sicko (2007): A documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories.I don’t watch many documentaries, the main reason is that they’ve never been easy to get, but I also never went out and seek them out. However Michael Moore’s documentaries are always controversial and “infamous”, so they attract more attention.
Not living in the US, I was happy to learn about their healthcare system and I didn’t have any political preconception before watching this. I only saw this to have information, not to criticize or take sides.
The information provided is very interesting, it helps my understanding of the way different countries work. Some of the info about Europe was more familiar to me, but still welcome.
Of course Moore’s films are never unbiased. He always has a motive and an opinion, so some of the information is presented in a manipulative way, and need to be checked before taking them at face value.
I really did not like how he depicted the various healthcare systems in a black and white matter. I am sure things are not that simple, and he avoided telling us about that.
I am glad I watched this film, it provided me with interesting facts, and it made me curious enough to seek out more information.
