Putting One More Day behind us, we get to the new era of Spider-Man. The first story arc of Brand New Day by Dan Slott and Steve McNiven is a good mix of silver age story with modern sensibilities.
Peter is facing new/old challenges, ones that we haven’t seen in a while, but that were at the center of these stories many years ago. He is totally down on his luck, and everything around him seems to go wrong.
His job search is not going well, which obviously affects his living and finance. His personal life is that of a young single man whose friend is a billionaire.
His superhero life isn’t that good either, with a petty criminal running around with his mask, and a new villain whose identity is a surprise. His spider-tracers and his web shooters are also prominent, which again reminded me of old time stories.
The art is very polished and clean, beautiful to look at. It’s still early to give a definitive judgment, but I had fun with this arc. It didn’t blow me away or anything, but I liked it. I was never a fan of Spider-Man anyway, but I want to give this a try.
