King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

I heard good things about this documentary, so I was curious to watch it. I am not a gamer at all, I’ve played games in my life but never for a long period. A few times I would spend days on a game, but I would inevitably get bored and stop altogether.

So at first I felt that this documentary was not that interesting to me, I even thought it was too geeky for me, since it was strictly about the classic arcade world, the players and the association around it.

But then they introduced Steve Webie, who is the challenger to the King Kong record. From then on this movie became a human story, all about the conflict between two people: Steve Webie and Billy Mitchell.

In the documentary we also see the families of these people, trying to tell us about the two players, so in the end we get to know them a little bit and care about them, or about Steve.

Billy was a perfect villain, from his look, what he says and the way he presents himself in general. On the other hand Steve is such a normal family guy, you can’t help but rooting for him.

There is also plenty of geekiness for game lovers, but it doesn’t prevented me from enjoying this movie at all. I wonder if some of these scenes were acted out for the camera, but I would recommend anyone to watch this film.
