Trinity #3

I am a little bit late this week, but I just had a daughter, so you’ll have to excuse me. This third issue is more action, this time bringing in the Justice League to fight Konvikt.

Busiek does a good job of presenting each member of the league without disrupting the action scenes. Even though I’m not familiar with all of them, I at least knew enough about them to remember them.

Then the trio shows up, and everybody defers to them. That’s a nice little piece of characterization that was noted by the villains of the story. The trio then respond to the situation quickly: Wonder Woman and Batman help the injured, leaving Superman to fight Konvikt. Unfortunately they get a surprise.

I am now very curious about Konvikt and Graak, their origin is now the biggest mystery for me. Another mystery is the identity of Enigma. He doesn’t look like the classic Batman villain, but he definitely knows Batman. Maybe it’s a future version of him, given his high-tech appearance.

The backup story starts a subplot of the series, starring Tarot. She obviously will be a big player (we saw a cameo of her in #1), but for the moment we’re just involved in her personal life, with the help of Jose, whom I don’t know about. The mystery here is who is that furry looking animal that saved her? Obviously it has something to do with Morgan and Enigma, since they were setting something up in LA.

For some reason the art by Bagley clicked in this issue. The action involving the JLA really worked for me, and the entrance of the trio had a nice impact. The backup art by Mike Norton and Jerry Ordway looked really neat and clean. It has a classic feeling, but it doesn’t look retro. This is the best issue in terms of art.
