Iron Man

Iron Man is a fun movie. It’s a typical summer blockbuster with plenty of action, some fun moments and a big final fight/action scene at the end. It’s nothing groundbreaking or special, but it’s well done.

The main attraction for me is Robert Downey Jr. I’ve always liked him and he seems perfect for this role. The rich spoiled genius playboy who doesn’t even know about his own company. He’s better when he’s being funny, but he was ok during more dramatic scenes as well.

I like his origins, the way he had to use technology in order to live. It’s pseudo science, or maybe just fantasy, but at least there is some sort of explanation. The way his suit was developed in the cave felt a bit unrealistic, but it was still cool to see it in action.

The comedy bits worked well, especially when he’s trying the suit for the first time. His interaction with Paltrow also worked well, they definitely had a connection. At times the comedy went a little over the top though, in particular I was annoyed by Jarvis. It’s a freaking computer that can make jokes!! Sorry, didn’t work for me.

Jeff Bridges was clearly the villain, just from the look of him. But I was surprised that “evil middle-eastern guy” was out of the picture so quickly. There are many little plot holes throughout the story, but they’re acceptable for a movie like this.

The final showdown between the two suits was ok, but it didn’t excite me too much. I guess I’ve grown tired of these. But overall it’s still a good movie. My mistake was to watch it right after Dark Knight, which is so much better. But they shouldn’t even be compared.
