Wall-E

Pixar is always synonymous of quality, but after the masterpiece that was The Incredibles, I had a tough time comparing anything else to it. Until Wall-E.

This is a great film, both from the filmmaking perspective and story wise. Wall-E is a great character, he’s just a small robot and he barely says 2 words in the movie, but he is a full fledged character that emotes and make us emote too. That’s mostly thanks to the great visual storytelling as well as the great use of music.

The plot itself is that of love, which appeals to a large audience. It seems ridiculous to think that the love between two robots is touching, but it is in this film. It’s what drives Wall-E throughout the movie, and it’s what compels us to follow him in his journey.

On the other hand, this story has a larger scope, that of a the entire human race. This sci-fi story is also compelling, especially to a sci-fi fan like myself, but also to people who don’t usually care about this genre. Because in the end, this story is about all of us. I’ve often thought of a way to just sit on my chair and have everything done for me.

I really liked the unveiling of the mystery of what happened to humanity after they left earth. One of my favorite aspects of sci-fi stories.

In short, I think this film surpasses The Incredibles in quality. But I have a soft spot for superheroes, so I still prefer The Incredibles, but Wall-E is a very close second for me.
