Revolutionary Road

This was a very dramatic relationship story, performed by two great actors. Leo and DiCaprio really bring their A game in this film, playing a married couple who’s going through many problems.

The movie starts bleak, showing us the problems they’re having, but then it gives us hope. They make a wonderful inspiring decision to save their lives in the suburbs, and for a while we can see them being happy.

Then reality crashes in and we realize the truth. It wasn’t easy to watch, especially when it’s clear that there’s no hope for them. To realize that you don’t love your spouse, and maybe never did (though I don’t believe that), that’s very sad.

The ending was even more tragic, leaving us with a bitter and sad state of mind. I did understand both their point of views, and I don’t necessarily fault one over the other. That’s thanks to the good script and performances.

I did feel that the kids should have had more impact in their decision making, instead they were merely mentioned. I understand that’s not the point of the story, but they could have had no kids at all.

I loved Michael Shannon as the crazy man, the only man who understands them and is not afraid of telling the truth. I think everybody is more or less in the same situation, they just are afraid of acknowledging it.

A good movie with great performances.
