This is a Swedish vampire film unlike any other vampire movie. At the center of this story is Oskar, a frequently bullied 12 year old boy who meets Eli, a 12 year old looking girl, who’s actually a vampire.
They slowly develop a relationship which is not the usual Hollywood love story. Oskar is only 12 , and though we don’t know Eli’s real age, she seems to be fond of him. She also helps Oskar be more confident and defend himself.
The more horrific scenes were very effective, giving a creepy and scary but not gory feel. The cold environment was a big part of the atmosphere of the film. It definitely felt very different from the usual Hollywood movie.
I thought the two main actors were brilliant, it all felt natural even in a supernatural situation like this.
This is a movie that deserves to be seen by a wider audience.
