The Fall

This is a very strange movie that blurs the lines between reality and storytelling. I actually watched this very late at night while I was sleepy, so it all appropriately felt dream-like to me.

I liked Lee Pace in Pushing Daisies, and I think he has great chemistry here with the little girl Catinca Untaru. She acts so naturally that it’s obvious she either doesn’t know she’s in a movie, or the director/actor are very good at entertaining her and having her do what they need for the movie.

The fantasy scenes were over the top, not boring but not exciting either. Even when little Alexandra appears in the story it just feels too late. I did like that Roy was trying to trick her into getting him morphine, but the scene where he confesses to her at the end didn’t work for me.

This wasn’t the charming movie I thought it’d be, but it does have some good moments, especially with Catinca.
