This is a little-knows gem of a show I found and I’m gonna pimp this show for many years.
This is based in Vancouver, it stars Mary Spalding a directory of the intelligence agency, as well as Jimmy Reardon, an organized crime boss, dealing with trafficing marijuana.
We follow these two worlds on opposite sides of the law and we learn how each of them work. The intelligence community is as sneaky as the crime community. There are many different factions, each with their own agenda.
In the drug smuggling community there are the usual shady figures, but there are also legitimate business men who want to earn even more money, easy money, at high risk.
But Jimmy’s goal is actually to earn enough money for him to retire from that world and go legit and spend the rest of his life with his family. That’s why he’s considered weak by the new gangs in town.
This series is extremely interesting, there is not too much action, but it still feels very fast paced. But it’s the subtle power battle in getting intelligence and using it for the agency’s good that really fascinates me. This series doesn’t wait for you to catch up, it throws many different things at you, and you need to understand them and keep track of them. It’s a really rewarding experience.
Unfortunately the series was cancelled, so we get an ending that makes sense but also feels like too early. Overall though, it’s a very satisfying series. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in crime stories.
