This is the critical darling of the year that can be enjoyed by everybody. It’s a light comedy that has plenty of drama and seems to have deeper meaning. It has great performances, a popular lead actor (Clooney), pretty women (both young and older). Just the perfect mix.
At the heart of it it’s about our connection to other people, the fundamentals of a human being. That’s what’s missing in Ryan’s life. Thanks to the arrival of two women in his life, he realizes what he’s missing.
But the end of the movie is unconventional, surprising and puzzling. I like all of those qualities in a movie. I did find the revelation about Alex a bit weird, though it made for a great ending for Ryan.
This is a great movie that I think everybody will enjoy. But is it deep enough to be more than a poignant romantic comedy? I guess it doesn’t matter, I enjoyed it a lot.
