After watching Glee, I discovered that my wife had never watched Grease, so I decide to watch this classic with her. I obviously watched it before, I knew most of the famous songs, but I have a hard time remembering when I watched it. I don’t think it was in Italy, they usually translate all the songs in Italian.
Anyway, watching it again it was clear that this story didn’t really stand the test of time. I still had nostalgic feelings towards it, and some of the songs are still captivating. But my wife had no idea why this movie was so popular. She just thought it was stupid and didn’t understand the characters at all. I don’t even think she liked the musical performances, maybe only a few. Her comments were mostly about how stupid Zucco was.
I think it was a mistake to watch this soon after watching the modern contemporary Glee. They just can’t compare, being from very different decades.
I was also surprised at how few of the songs I actually liked. Most of them are just not good for me. It’s still a classic, and I can see myself re-watching a few of the performances again, but not the entire movie, that’s for sure.
